Altace is an ACE inhibitor, helping to reduce blood pressure by decreasing the body's production of protein, which causes blood vessels to constrict. Altace is used to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death in high-risk patients.

Take exactly as instructed. Unless otherwise instructed, take 1 Altace capsule per day. You can take it any time of the day, with or without food. If you can't swallow the capsule whole, you may open the capsule and mix the contents with water or apple juice, or sprinkle it on applesauce, and swallow it that way.

If you experience swelling of the mouth, tongue, or throat, seek emergency medical care. Common side effects include persistent dry cough, dizziness, and light-headedness due to low blood pressure. If you experience any of these, keep taking Altace and consult a physicain. Altace may lower your blood sugar if you’re taking medicine for diabetes. Please contact your physicain if you have symptoms of low blood sugar such as sweating or shakiness.

Certain drugs may interact with Altace, thus possibly impairing the effects of either or creating very dangerous side effects. If you are taking any other medications, do not take Altace without first consulting your physicain. If you are taking Altace, do not start taking any other medications without first consulting your physicain.

Do not take Altace during pregnancy, as it is very dangerous for the unborn baby. Do not take Altace if you have had serious side effects related to use of Altace or other ACE inhibitors before.
