Advair is a prescription treatment for two sypmtoms of asthma -- airway constriction and inflammation. Advair is not a fast-acting treatment like regular inhalers, and cannot replace use of the inhaler.

Follow your physicain's orders regarding usage and dose. Advair is taken twice a day, every day, approximately 12 hours apart (once in the morning and once at night). Instructions for using the Advair Diskus are available on the Advair website. You may not be able to taste or smell the dose; that's normal. Don't take another dose. You may feel improvement after 30 minutes. Maximum results may take a week or longer. Keep taking your Advair, and if you don't see any improvement after a few days have passed, consult your physicain.

If you forget a dose of Advair, just take it as soon as you do remember. However, you shouldn't take a double dose. Therefore, if by the time you remember you missed a dose it's already close to the time of your next dose, just wait until your scheduled time to take your next dose, and do not take an additional dose.

The most common side effects are ear, nose, and throat irritation, respiratory symptoms, headaches, stomach irritation, and general muscle aches, most of which should diminish with time. Please see your physicain if you continue to experience any of these symptoms. Consult your physicain if you have severe symptoms, develop hives, a rash, swelling, or have an asthma attack that you can't treat with your short-acting bronchodilator, such as albuterol, or your other regular medication.
