| About Accolate |
Accolate is a non-steroidal tablet used for prevention and continuous treatment of asthma (it does not have immediate action and will not reverse asthma attacks as they occur).
The active ingredient in Accolate is a leukotriene receptor antagonist. Leukotrienes are naturally occuring in the body but they can cause many asthma symptoms, and lowering leukotriene levels can prevent the recurrence of asthma attacks.
Accolate is appropriate for adults and children over 5 years of age.
|
| Proper Accolate Usage |
Take exactly as instructed. The usual dose for adults and children over the age of 12 is 1 twenty-miligram tablet, twice a day. For children aged 5 to 11, 1 ten-miligram tablet, twice a day. Accolate shouldn't be taken be food: make sure to take it at least 1 hour before your meal or 2 hours after.
Make sure to remember to take the tablet even when you're symptom-free.
Do not increase or decrease your dose and do not stop taking your asthma medication without first consulting a physicain.

|

Patients taking oral warfarin (Coumadin) at the same time as Accolate should have their prothrombin times monitored and warfarin dose adjusted accordingly.
Your physicain will need to know if you are taking Theophylline. In rare cases, an increase in theophylline blood levels can occur in patients taking Accolate.
