Coumadin Information
Coumadin is an anticoagulant drug, and is popularly used for preventing thrombosis and embolism or the abnormal formation and migration of blood clots. It was actually first intended as a pesticide for rats and mice (still used today as such). Coumadin works by inhibiting the enzyme vitamin K epoxide reductase in a patient's body, thus preventing blood clots from forming or growing larger. It is usually used on patients who had suffered a heart attack or had undergone a heart valve replacement surgery.
